WASHINGTON…Modie L. Evans, 79, of Washington, passed away at 10:50 p.m., Sunday, October 3, 2010 at Washington Christian Village.
Modie was born on August 31, 1931 in Thornfield, Missouri to Harrison and Iva Lawson Friend. She married Mearle S. Evans on August 2, 1950 in Mountain Home, Arkansas. Mearle died in Washington on March 5, 2005.
Among those surviving is one son, Sam (Pam) Evans of Tinley Park; two daughters, Bonnie (Tim) Allen of Germantown Hills and Rose Burns of Washington; one son, Sam (Pam) Evans of Tinley Park; six sisters, Maxine DeBord of Princeville, Freda (Sonny) Loftus, Peggy (Bob) Robbins, Mamie Strong and Fern Berger, all of Gainesville, Missouri and Polly (Wayne) Ousley of Ava, Missouri; two brothers, Ed (Ina) Friend of Gainesville, Missouri and Lee Friend of Seattle, Washington; five grandchildren,Corey (Kelly) Allen, Rachel Evans, Becca Evans, Holly Bauer and Lane Weaver and two great grandchildren, Corey Allen, Jr. and Layla Allen. She was also preceded in death by two brothers, John and Joe Friend and several half-brothers and half-sisters.
Modie had retired from Szold’s Department Store in Washington, where she had worked for many years.
She had been a member for more than 50 years of the First Baptist Church in Washington and loved to help in the church nursery.
Modies especially cherished the time that she could spend with her grandchildren and all kids, especially the babies. In her spare time, she loved to garden and looked forward to the fishing trips to the lake in Wisconsin.
Funeral services will be held on Friday at 10:30 at Mason-White Funeral Home with Pastor Jim Nelson officiating. Burial will follow in Glendale Cemetery in Washington. Visitation will be on Thursday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.

Those grandchildren serving as pallbearers will be Corey Allen, Rachel Evans, Becca Evans, Holly Bauer and Lane Weaver.
