Rockland - Dorothy A. (Bowker) (Nihill) Jylkka 94 of Rockland formerly of Braintree and So. Weymouth died in the Coyne Healthcare Center on October 2nd, after a period of failing health. She was the wife of the late Arvi A. Jylkka.
Born in Brockton, she was the daughter of the late Lloyd A. and Iva (Gowell) Bowker.
Dot enjoyed getting together with her family, especially during the holiday season. She loved music and dancing and would often have sing-a-longs. She was very talented at crocheting and made many beautiful afghans as gifts. She loved her cats.
She and her husband Arvi (fondly known as Duke) were very giving to many charities in the area, and helping of others.
Dorothy is survived by her daughter Patricia A. Nihill of Brockton, and her son Keith A. Jylkka of Hudson, NH. She is also survived by 4 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren and her sister Virginia Allen of Ipswich as well as many nieces and nephews. She was the mother of the late Richard A. Jylka and sister of the late Lloyd A., Robert, and Richard Bowker, Elva Brousseau, Marilyn Cottrell, Phyllis Colburn and Nadine Polito. She was the former wife of the late Arthur J. Nihill.
A special acknowledgement to the nurses and staff at Coyne Healthcare Center for the extraordinary care given to her during her long residence there, and to Beacon Hospice.
Relatives and friends are respectively invited to attend her services to be held on Thursday October 7th at 12 PM in the Blanchard Funeral Chapel Plymouth Street (Rt. 58 at the rotary) Whitman. Burial will follow in the Village Cemetery, Weymouth. Her visiting hours will be held 2 hours prior to the service from 10 AM-12 PM. Donations may be made in her name to the Alzheimer’s Assoc, 311 Arsenal St., Watertown, MA 02472, to Coyne Healthcare Center – Activities Dept. 56 Webster St. Rockland, MA 02370 or to the charily of one’s choice.
