Richard A. Wood, 79, of Tifton died Saturday, October 2, 2010, at his residence. Funeral services will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Monday, October 4, 2010, at Eastside Baptist Church. Rev. Tommy McDonald, Rev. Dillard Ensley and Rev. Jimmy Odum will officiate with burial to follow in Oak Ridge Cemetery. Bubby Raney, Mike Raney, Mark Raney, Darrell Nedelisky, Jimmy Castleberry and Brian Blanchett will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be the Brotherhood of Eastside Baptist Church and members of the First John Sunday school class of Eastside Baptist Church.
Mr. Wood was born on August 30, 1931 in Cook County and was the son of Hubert Wood and Etheyl Ivy Wood, both deceased. He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Ruben Wood and Wayne Wood. He was retired from Snap-On Tools, a job he loved dearly and where he touched many lives. He was a member of Eastside Baptist Church and loved his church family and being part of the Brotherhood. He loved his family and his extended family and lived a “Walk The Talk” life.
Mr. Wood is survived by his wife, Carolyn A. Wood of Tifton; one daughter, Teresa W. Sumner of Lenox; two sisters, Betty Tillman of Hernando, Florida and Daphene Lovett of Melbourne, Florida; and two grandchildren, Lee Sumner of Homerville and Liz Sumner of Lenox.
