Obituary

Helen Ashworth, 90, of 2104 Fellowship Road, Tucker, Georgia passed away at Embracing Hospice Care, Snellville, Georgia on Sunday, September 26. She had been in declining health for several months.
She was born May 18, 1920 in the Brosville Community near Danville. She was the daughter of Ancie Ware Ashworth and Minnie Lipford Ashworth.
Miss Ashworth lived her early years in the Brosville Community graduating from Brosville High School and Averett College. She was a member of Brosville United Methodist Church. She served as a teacher for a number of years before moving to Georgia and beginning a new career with the Communicable Disease Center working there from 1955 until 1985.
Helen enjoyed the companionship of her canine friends through the years. She was a very loving pet owner and her pets were very fortunate. She also enjoyed watching ball games, especially when her favorite team, the Atlanta Braves, were playing.
She was the last member of her immediate family of ten children. She is survived by several nieces and nephews and several great nieces and nephews. She is also survived by several dear friends from Georgia, and a special buddy, Sassy.
She was predeceased by five sisters, Verna Ashworth Spear, Mildred Ashworth Dixon, Myrtle Ashworth, Margaret Hazel Ashworth and Catherine Herndon Rimmer, and by four brothers, Herman Cassell Ashworth, Richard Neal Ashworth, Raymond Ashworth and Frank Ashworth.
The funeral will be held at 3 p.m. Monday, October 4, 2010 at Brosville United Methodist Church with the Rev. Dr. Jeff Harlow officiating. Interment will be in Danville Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service and at other times at the home of Raymond and Carolyn Herndon, 160 Walnut Hill Road, Danville, Virginia.
