Augusta, GA – Charlotte Ansley Downing Jennings, beloved wife of the late Dr. William Dickerson Jennings, Jr. died Thursday, September 30, 2010.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, October 4, 2010 at the Church of the Good Shepherd with the Very Reverend Robert D. Fain officiating. Interment to follow in Westover Memorial Park.
A native of Atlanta, Mrs. Jennings was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Francis Downing, and the granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. Walter Thomas Downing. She was a graduate of Girls High School in Atlanta, and the University of Georgia in Athens, where she was a member of Zodiac Honor Society and Pi Beta Phi Sorority.
During her life, Mrs. Jennings was active in a number of organizations, including the Richmond County Medical Auxiliary and the March of Dimes. Most of her time was devoted to the Altar Guild, the Wedding Guild, and St. Margaret’s Circle at the Church of the Good Shepherd.
Above all, she loved her family, her friends, particularly the Thursday Bridge Club, and her church.
Mrs. Jennings is survived by her son, William D. Jennings, III and his wife Julia Rainwater Jennings of Augusta; her daughter, Lane Jennings Stewart of Athens, GA; her granddaughter, Ansley Elizabeth Stewart also of Athens, GA; her grandson, William Charles Stewart and his fiancé Elizabeth Jennings Pressley of Greenville, SC; and many dear cousins.
The family wishes to give its heartfelt thanks to the loving and compassionate caregivers who cared for Charlotte Jennings during the last months of her life, especially Susie Barnes, Patricia Childs, Margaret Holmes, Juanita Clark, Shirley Clark, Valencia Davis, TyWanda Godwin, Rene’ Lemmons, and Barbara Smith and the other members of her fine establishment.

The family will receive friends in the fellowship hall at the Church of the Good Shepherd on Sunday evening, October 3, 2010 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM.
