Raymond D. Apkarian, 75, of Atkinson, NH, passed away suddenly on Wednesday, September 22, 2010 at the Merrimack Valley Hospital in Haverhill, MA.
Raymond was born in Lawrence to the late Charles and Anna (Meranian) Apkarian. He served during the Korean War with the United States Army. Raymond received his B.S. from Northeastern University and had a long, successful career as a facilities engineer. During his free time he enjoyed fishing, hunting, swimming, jogging, boating, cross-country skiing and his newest hobby, horse back riding. In his younger years he also enjoyed flying and obtained his pilot's license. Raymond was always ready to lend a helping hand and had endless life stories and lessons to share. Those who know Raymond best, knew that he was happiest when he was outdoors. He often spent time with his grandchildren doing many outdoor activities. He held a special place in his heart for Merrymeeting Lake in New Durham, NH, where he spent many years during the summers and weekends with his family. He most recently enjoyed spending his days on the farm at Atkinson Riding Academy. He adored his horses and being with them brought him much joy. He will be sorely missed by his family and by the many people at ARA who had become like his second family. He will also be very missed by his horses, Sky, Bobby and Ava. Raymond will forever be remembered as a wonderful father, a very special grandfather, caring friend and trusted confidant. His constant smile will never be forgotten.
He is survived by his two daughters, Diane (Apkarian) Musgrave and her husband Rick of Atkinson, NH and Susan DeMarco Buckley of Manchester, NH; and son Robert Apkarian and his wife Martha of Alton Bay, NH; and 9 grandchildren. He is predeceased by his two brothers, Charles Jr. and Michael.
Friends are invited to call from 4 to 8 p.m. on Monday, September 27th at the Dewhirst Funeral Home, 80 Broadway, Methuen, MA. A funeral service will be held at 10am on Tuesday at the funeral home.
