Lillie Cornell Underwood, 92, of 488 Jenny Lane, died Monday, September 20, 2010 at her residence after being in declining
health for two years. Born July 18, 1918 in Caswell County, NC, she was the daughter of the late William Thomas Cornell
and Dollie Pruitt Cornell Rigney. She lived most of her life in Caswell County and moved to Danville in 2000. On July 2, 1938
she married Loyd W. Underwood who predeceased her on April 15, 1998. She was a member of Park Springs Pentecostal
Holiness Church and retired from Dan River, Inc. after 38 years of service.
Mrs. Underwood is survived by one daughter, Doris U. Murphy and her husband, Roy, of Danville, and three sons, Leonard
Underwood and his wife, Betty, Paul Underwood and his wife, Mary, and Wesley Underwood and his wife, Betty, all of Providence.
Other survivors include a sister, Mary Gentry, of Providence, 10 grandchildren, 1 step-grandson, 13 great-grandchildren and 5 step-great-
grandchildren; also a number of nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by 5 sisters, Fannie Cornell,
Rosa Gentry, Edna Turner, Vergie Leonard, and Vera Hogan; 2 brothers, George and Junius Cornell.
Graveside services will be held Thursday, September 23, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at Floral Hills Memory Gardens with the Rev. Mark Moore
officiating. The family will receivefriends Wednesday, September 22, 2010 from 7:00 to *:30 p.m. at Barker Funeral Home Chapel and at other times will be at the
residence, 488 Jenny Lane. The family respectfully request in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to Park Springs Pentecostal
Holiness Church, 5181 Foster Road, Providence, 27315.
