Obituary

Philip C. "Sixty” Fandel age 77 of Germantown Hills, Illinois passed away at Methodist Medical Center on Saturday Sept. 18, 2010 , surrounded by his family. He was born May 26, 1933 in Worth Twp. Woodford County Illinois, to Leo and Lydia (Kiesewetter) Fandel. He married Rose Marie Athey on Sept. 28, 1957 in Streator, Illinois. She survives.

Also surviving are four children, Stephen (Julie) Fandel of Ocean Springs, MS, Cheryl (Andy) Poulos of Batavia, IL, Michele (Albert Durst) Fandel of Low Point, IL and Brian Fandel of Germantown Hills; eight grandchildren, Amanda Fandel, Allison and Scott Poulos; Tyler and Lindsey Glaub; Karagen, Michael and Seth Fandel. Philip is also survived by six sisters; Alvena Force, Melberta (Joe) Krumholz, Agnes Parr, Dolores Harms, Marcella Obery, Lulu Mae “Suzy” (Jack) Hoffman all of Metamora. Three brothers; Jack (Ruth) Fandel of Washington, Fred Fandel, and Donald (Joan) Fandel both of Metamora. He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister Eileen Miller, and one brother Austin Fandel.

Philip served in the U.S. Army in the 82nd Airborne during the Korean War. He was employed as a operating engineer at George E. Hoffman & Sons Inc. for nearly 20 years, and Peoria Black Top from June 1982 until his retirement in June 1997. Member of Operating Engineers Local 649. Philip was a life long member of St. Mary’s of Lourdes
Catholic Church in Metamora and St. Mary’s Mens Club. Philip enjoyed watching his grandchildren’s sporting events. He also enjoyed his hobby of making various country rustic crafts.

A Funeral Mass will be at 10:00am Wednesday Sept. 22, 2010 at St. Mary’s of Lourdes Catholic Church in rural Metamora. Father Neri Greskoviak officiating. Visitation will be from 5pm until 8pm Tuesday at the Mason Funeral Home Germantown Hills Chapel with recitation of the rosary at 8pm. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Lourdes Cemetery.
