Helen S. (Gilgunn) Kelly, a lifelong resident of Charlestown, died on Saturday, September 18, 2010 at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston after a lengthy illness. She was 77 years old.
Helen was born in Boston and grew up in Charlestown where she attended Boston Public Schools and graduated from Charlestown High School in 1951. She worked several years as a hostess at The Cambridge Hampton Inn until 2009. She was an active member in the Ladies Auxillary at The Malden Irish/American Club.
Helen is the beloved wife of the late William J. Kelly. She is the devoted mother of Nancy Kelly of Charlestown and Karen Comeau and her husband Richard of Weymouth. She is the loving grandmother of Gabrielle Comeau and Jake Minear. She is the beloved sister of John Gilgunn of Melrose, the late Rose Strano, Mary Civilikus, Joseph, Thomas and James Gilgunn. She is also the loving aunt of several nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend Helen's Funeral on Wednesday, September 22, 2010 at 9 a.m. from The Carr Funeral Home, 220 Bunker Hill St. Charlestown followed by her Funeral Mass in St. Mary's Church, 55 Warren St. Charlestown at 10 a.m. Interment at Veterans Administration National Cemetery, Bourne at 12:45 p.m. Visiting hours will be on Tuesday, September 21, 2010 from 4 to 7 p.m.
