Obituary

BEVERLY: Leona A. (Ball) Wood, 96, of 22 Federal Street, died Friday, September 17, 2010 in the Essex Park Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Beverly. She was the wife of the late Henry Wood.
Born in Beverly on March 10, 1914, she was the daughter of the late Bertram C. and Geraldine M. (Merrill) Ball. A lifelong resident of Beverly, Leona was a longtime supporter of Beverly High School sports and was a devoted Boston Celtics and New England Patriots fan.
Leona was employed as a bookkeeper at the former Mrs. Day Ideal Baby Shoe Company in Danvers for many years. Her devotion to the Memorial United Methodist Church was second only to her love and devotion to her family. She will always be remembered for her sharp, dry wit and her fondness of Dunkin Donuts.
She is survived by her loving family, including her sister, Geraldine Hutchinson of Beverly and many nieces, nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews. She was also predeceased by her two brothers, Harrison “Harry” Ball and Chester “Chet” Ball.
Her funeral services will be held on Wednesday in the Memorial United Methodist Church, Beverly at 2 p.m. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend. There are no visiting hours. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in her memory to the Memorial United Methodist Church, 2 Dane St., Beverly, MA 01915.
