Maria J. Fernandes, age 72 of Fall River, passed away September 18, 2010. She was wife of Joao L. “ Pica Pao” Fernandes of Fall River from Santa Clara, Sao Miguel, Azores and daughter of the late Jose Medeiros Galhofa and Maria da Conceicao (Ferreira) Galhofa. Maria was born in Lomba da Maia, Sao Miguel, Azores and she resided in Fall River for over 50 years. She was a trimmer for over 30 years at Lynn Jay Mfg. and later a presser at River Falls Mfg. until she retired. She was a parishioner of Santo Christo Church.
Besides her husband, she is survived by 2 daughters: Susan Mello and her husband Glenn and Linda Janeiro; granddaughter Shaylin McKenna Janeiro; sisters: Maria S. Bonito and her husband Jose and Olivia Reis and her husband Francisco and several nieces and nephews. She was sister of the late Jose Domingos.
Her funeral will take place from the Manuel Rogers & Sons Funeral Home 1521 N. Main St., Fall River Wednesday at 9 A.M. with a Mass of Christian Burial in Santo Christo Church, Columbia St. at 10 A.M. Interment in Notre Dame Cemetery. Calling hours Tuesday 4-8 P.M.
