Mabel M. Furfaro (nee Jacobs) age 79 of Brockton died unexpectedly Friday September 17, 2010 at Signature Healthcare/Brockton Hospital. She was the devoted wife for 60 years of Armand Furfaro and beloved mother of Lisa Furfaro. Armand and Mabel were childhood sweethearts who met when they were 17 and 15 years old. They were married after a five year engagement as he entered the Service. They were together for 65 years. Mabel was born in Brockton a daughter of the late Elly and Madeline (Ferriera) Jacobs and remained a lifelong resident of the city. She enjoyed crocheting and crafts, flower gardening, photography and baking. Mabel had been a volunteer at St. Casimir Church and School and a Camp Fire Girl leader.
Mabel was extremely devoted to her family and was the “Rock of Gibraltar”. She will be remembered as being kind hearted, loving and generous to all.
In addition to her husband she is survived by two daughters Lisa A. Furfaro of Brockton who was her caregiver through her illness and Diane Lucier of Taunton. Mabel was the grandmother of Jason, Stephen and Mark and great grandmother of four. She was the sister of Genevieve Johnson of Brockton and the late Richard, Charles, Louis, and Willard Jacobs, Gladys Hunt, and Mary Nickerson. She also leaves many nieces and nephews.
Funeral from the Conley Funeral Home 138 Belmont St. (Rte 123) Brockton Wednesday at 8 am Funeral Mass in St. Edith Stein/St. Edward Church at 9 am. Burial in Melrose Cemetery. Visiting hours Tuesday 5-8 pm. Donations in Mabel’s name may be made to AMVETS 180 Oak Street, Brockton, MA 02301.
