LOWELL—Edward H. McDermott, III, 56 years old, died Saturday evening, at this home after a long illness. He was the husband of Pamela J. (Schwalb) McDermott, who survives him.
He was born in Lowell, on July 18, 1947, a son of Mary McDermott Little, of Dracut; and the late Edward H. McDermott, II. He was a graduate of St. Michael’s Grammar School and Lowell High School, Class of 1965.
Mr. McDermott served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War and received two Purple Hearts, a Bronze Star with Valor; and the Combat Infantry Badge. Upon his discharge, he worked in the Lowell Post Office for over 31 years, until illness forced his retirement. He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans; the East End Club and at the time of his death was a Board Member of the Long Meadow Golf Club.
Surviving him besides his wife are a two sons and a daughter-in-law: Edward H. and Colleen (Landry) McDermott, IV, of Lowell; and Owen M. McDermott, a 7th grade student at the Sullivan Middle School, of Lowell; a grandson: Edward H. McDermott, V; his mother-in-law: Marilyn Schwalb, of Tewksbury; his step brothers and step-sisters: Michael, Stephen and Ann McDermott; and Kate Oteri; his brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: William Schwalb and Diane Shurtles; Kenneth and Becky Meharg; William and Cynthia Magnell; Anthony and Lori DeBernardo, and Debra Comeau, all of Tewksbury; also many nieces, nephews and close friends.
Friends may call from 4 to 9 PM on Tuesday, December 2nd, at the MAHONEY FUNERAL HOME, 187 Nesmith Street, (Rte. 38). His Funeral Mass to be offered Wednesday, December 3rd, at ST. MICHAEL’S CHURCH.
