Obituary

Michael J. Antonik, 74, of Olyphant, died Thursday at home following a lengthy illness. His wife is the former Mary Ann Spegar. They celebrated 52 years of marriage on Aug. 30.

Born April 9, 1936, in Jessup, son of the late John and Elizabeth Kmetz Antonik, he was a graduate of Jessup High School. He retired after 43 years of service at Casket Shells Inc., Eynon. He was a member of the Queen City Hose Company 8, and was an officer of the St. John the Baptist Society, Branch 10, First Catholic Slovak Union of Olyphant. Since retiring, he was associated with the Michael P. Glinsky Funeral Home Inc, Olyphant.

"Uncle Mike," as he was known throughout the Midvalley, was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather. He was well loved and will be missed by many. He served as a taxi driver for his grandchildren at any time. His favorite activities included fishing, mushroom picking, casinos, lottery tickets, taking care of his garden and cooking — especially French toast and funnel cakes.

The family would like to thank his special nurse, Karen, along with all the staff at VNA Hospice, Olyphant.

Surviving are a son, James, at home; two daughters, Judy Keyasko and Janice Antonik, both of Olyphant; three grandchildren, Brianna Keyasko, Drums; Stephen Keyasko and Melissa Taramelli, both of Olyphant; a sister, Barbara Dubravchak, Jessup; nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Eleanor Kolesar.
