Thelma S. Laferriere, 96, of Rhodes Ave. North Smithfield, formerly of Kennedy Manor, died Thursday at St. Antoine Residence. She was the wife of the late Alphonse R. Laferriere who died in 1978.
Born in Woonsocket, she was a daughter of the late Arthur and Rose (Dufresne) Tetreault. She was a lifelong resident of Woonsocket.
She worked for several years at Najarian’s Dept. store. She was a dedicated homemaker in raising her family.
Mrs. Laferriere was active with the Girl Scouts, the Ladies Sodality at Precious Blood Church, and the Kennedy Manor Club.
Thelma was a resident of St. Antoine for the past 10 years and she became known as the “Sunshine Lady”. Her love of life and people always shown though in her smile and pleasant manor as she welcomed fellow residents to the St. Antoine community.
She is survived by a son, Richard O. Laferriere (W.F.D.ret), and his wife Pamela, of FL, a daughter Paulette Masnyk, and her husband Richard Sr., of Woonsocket. She was the sister of the late Oscar, Arthur, and Alfred Tetreault. She is also survived by 8 grandchildren, 5 great- grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
Her funeral will be Monday at 10:00 am from the Menard Funeral Home, 127 Carrington Ave., Woonsocket, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 am in St. Antoine Chapel, 10 Rhodes Ave., North Smithfield. Burial will follow in Precious Blood Cemetery, Woonsocket. Visiting hours are Sunday from 5-8 pm.
