Obituary

Borden F. Zwicker Sr. 80 Years old, a lifelong resident of Lowell, died Wednesday morning at the Merrimack Valley Hospice House surrounded by his loving family following a long illness.
Born in Cambridge on December 6, 1929, he was a son of the late Borden and Sarah (Finnigan) Zwicker. He was educated in the Lowell schools and a graduate of Lowell High School where he was a standout football player on Coach Ray Riddick’s first football team. He then went on to Northeastern University and received his BA Degree in Criminal Justice. Borden later was a member of the first class at the University of Lowell when it offered a degree course in Criminal Justice and received his Masters Degree from that University.
During the Korean Conflict, Borden served his country in the United States Army in the 28th Division, 7th Army. He was discharged in 1952. Following his discharge, Borden worked at Educator Biscuit Company for ten years. Borden joined the Lowell Police Department in July of 1964. He attained the ranks of Sergeant in 1978 and Lieutenant in 1984. Borden retired from the force on September 13, 1992 following a brilliant career in law enforcement receiving many awards and commendations. At home Borden loved nothing better that caring for his pet schnauzers that he took great pride in.
Mr. Zwicker loved and enjoyed being envolved in sports. From the Immaculate Conception C.Y.O to Lowell High School Borden participated on many sport teams. He was one of the founders of the Shedd Park Minor League, was President and a manager for the Shedd Park Little League, Senior League and Babe Ruth League. He also was involved with the Lowell Youth Skating Association.
Mr. Zwicker was a member of the Massachusetts Police Association, the Lowell Superior Officer’s Association, and the Lowell Lodge of Elks #87. His greatest love following retirement was his membership at Long Meadow Golf Club where he had his daily routine of golf in the morning and cards with his friends in the afternoon. Borden was a member of the American Association of Retired Persons and of the Immaculate Conception Church.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 60 years, Beatrice (Texeira) Zwicker of Lowell; two sons and a daughter in law, Borden F. Zwicker Jr. and Kurt J. Zwicker and his wife Diane both of Lowell; a sister, Janet Silvestri of Attleboro; his aunt and godmother, Bernadette Rynho of Falmouth and many nieces, nephews and cousins including Paula Lowry, Becky Laurent, Valerie Gordon, Jennifer Brookshaw, Frank Sylvia, Steve Sylvia, Christine Hosford, Robert Bomil Sr., Christine Bomil, Robert Bomil Jr., Kerri Bomil, David Thompson, Julia Thompson, Jeffery Thompson, Karin Cormier, Dean Thompson and Darrin Thompson.
Mr. Zwicker was also the brother of the late Barbara St. Pierre formerly of Alabama.
ZWICKER- Relatives and friends may call on Monday Sept.20 from 4 until 8 pm at the MAHONEY FUNERAL HOME, 187 NESMITH STREET (Rte.38). His Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday Sept.21 at 9:00 am at the Immaculate Conception Church (Lower Church) followed by burial at St. Mary’s Cemetery.
