Obituary

George E. Flanagan, 73, of Medway died September 12, at his home. He was the husband of Mary Lou (Scanlan) Flanagan.

Born in Pittston, Pennsylvania, January 2, 1937, the son of the late James and Kathleen (MacDonald) Flanagan, Mr. Flanagan was raised in Pennsylvania and had lived in Medway for the past 45 years.

Mr. Flanagan had worked as a chemical technician for the Bayer Corporation in Needham for 35 years until retiring in 1997.

George had coached many youth sports teams in Medway over the years and was a great fan of all Medway “Mustang” sports.

He had been a volunteer reader at the North School and the Town Library.

He was also an avid fan of the Boston Red Sox.

Mr. Flanagan served in the Army during the late 1950’s.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Michael Flanagan and his wife Laura of Medway, Mark Flanagan of Medway, John Flanagan of Medway and George Flanagan and his wife Jessica of Astoria, Queens, New York.

He was the brother of the late James and Joseph Flanagan and Jean Maggar and Ruth Bryson.

He is also survived by his grandchildren, Kevin, Connor, Zachary, Tyler, Caroline and Sydney.

His funeral will be held on Wednesday, September 15 from the Ginley-Crowley Funeral Home, 3 Barber St. in Medway at 9:15 followed by a funeral Mass in St. Joseph Church at 10:00 a.m. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery in Medway.

Calling hours will be on Tuesday from 4-8 p.m.
