Obituary

Gerard E. "Jerry" Veilleux, 92, a resident of Methuen, MA., passed away on Thursday, September 9, 2010 at the Merrimack Valley Hospice House in Haverhill, MA.

Jerry was born on January 11, 1918 in Lawrence, MA. and was the son of the late Auguste and Mathilda (Rodrigue) Veilleux. He was educated in the Lawrence Schools and was a graduate of Lawrence High School. Jerry went on to attend Boston University. He owned and operated Jerry's Bakery in the lower Tower Hill section. Jerry then served for 31 months in the United States Navy during World War II aboard the USS Stembel Destroyer Ship that engaged in 9 major battles. He then went on to work for the V.A. Hospital in Bedford, MA. as the supervisor of the Dietetic Department for some 30 years. Jerry enjoyed all sports but most when he was the coach for St. Theresa's Baseball Team where he won the championship. He loved his 15 year old dog "Westie", and spent many great times with his son Stephen throughout the years.

Jerry was predeceased by his brothers and sisters Emile, Leo, Wilfred, Yvonne, and Eva. He is survived by his wife of 68 years: Elizabeth (Castrios) Veilleux, his son: Stephen Simon of Windham, NH, and his grandchildren Stephen Simon, Jr. and Stephanie Simon both of Windham, NH.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, September 13, 2010 at 9:00 A.M. at the John Breen Memorial Funeral Home, Inc., 122 Amesbury St., Lawrence, MA. Burial will follow in the Elmwood Cemetery in Methuen, MA. Family and friends may call on Monday morning from 8 to 9 A.M. at the funeral home.
