GALLIGAN, Thomas J. Jr. Of Westwood, entered eternal rest at the age of 91 on September 9, 2010. Beloved husband for 66 years of Lauretta (Durkin) Galligan. Former chairman and CEO of Boston Edison Co. Born in Boston, Tom graduated from Boston College High School, Boston College and Harvard Business School and was a WWII veteran serving as an officer with a Navy PT boat squadron in in the Mediterranean Tom was a prominent leader in the Boston business community and served on many business and charitable boards including: BankBoston, Cabot Corporation, New England Life, Liberty Mutual, The Vault , Massachusetts General Hospital (where he was a Trustee), and the United Way. Tom took great pride in his association with Boston College, from which he graduated in 1941. He was a long serving member of the Board of Trustees, he was the first lay Chairman of the Board from 1975-1978. He was awarded an honorary Doctorate of Business Administration from BC in 1975 . In 1984, the BC Carroll School of Management established the Thomas J. Galligan Chair of Operations and Strategic Management. His most recent honor was the BC Andrew Carney Medal, which recognizes distinguished past University leaders. Tom and Lauretta enjoyed many happy years together raising their five sons in Newton. For 30 years, they maintained a vacation home in Osterville and were members of the Oyster Harbors Club, where Tom was former president, and the Wianno Club. For the past ten years Tom & Luaretta enjoyed being active with their many old and new friends at Fox Hill Village in Westwood. Devoted father of Thomas J. Galligan III and his wife Dr. Ann of Weston, John D. Galligan and his wife Kathleen of Wenham, Christopher M. Galligan and his wife Andrea of South Hamilton, Martin P. Galligan and his wife Nancy of Wellesley, Peter A. Galligan and his wife Margaret of Needham. Brother of Gerald M. Galligan of Canton and the late Robert W. Galligan.
