Hanson – Dorothy B. “Dot” (Phinney) Torrey 80, died Thursday September 9 after a period of failing health. She was the beloved wife of 53 years to the late Harold R. Torrey.
Born and raised in Whitman she was the daughter of the late Clark and Delia (Giberti) Phinney and a graduate of Whitman High School.
Dorothy had been a resident of Hanson for 58 years and had worked as a secretary at Ocean Spray for several years. At her retirement she had the distinction of being named the female employee with the longest company tenure.
She was a former member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the American Legion Post 22 of Whitman.
Dorothy was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother and her greatest joy came from the time spent with her family.
She is survived by her loving daughter Cindy Post and her husband Jim of Kingston, her grandchildren Lindsay Mulkern and her husband Mike, and Molly Post, as well as her two great grandchildren Madison and Ashley. She was the grandmother of the late Patrick Post.
Her services will be held Tuesday September 14 at 8 AM from the Blanchard Funeral Chapel Plymouth Street (Rt. 58 at the rotary) Whitman, followed by a funeral mass at 9 AM in Our Lady of the Lake Church, Halifax. Burial will follow in the Fern Hill Cemetery, Hanson. Visiting hours will be held Monday September 13 from 4 PM – 8 PM.
