Obituary

GLOUCESTER: Marco Tiramani, 81, died Monday, September 6, 2010. He was the son of the late Andrew and Dominca (Villa) Tiramani.
Born and raised in the Framingham, MA Marco came from a hard working family, and served in the Army National Guard. Marco was always the “go to guy”, whenever a piece of machinery needed fixing, whether it be a boat, crane, track, or machinery. While working at Standard Fittings, Wilbur Tracy of Gloucester Engineering came to see him to fix a problem, not long after he offered him a job, and it was off to Gloucester. At Gloucester Engineering he worked his way up to Vice President, and spent 18 years there.
When Marco first came to Gloucester he rented a room on the Boulevard from Mrs. Grammas who became a very important person in his life. In 1973 he met and married Kathryn Cluett, which brought on an entirely new challenge of running Bickford’s Marina on Rocky Neck. This made Marco the face (and voice) of Smith’s Cove for over 25 years, as most will remember his famous “No Wake” call to any passer-by who disturbed the peace of Smith’s Cove. Many East Gloucesterites will remember the beautiful tree that graced the top of Bickford’s crane each Christmas.
Known for his no nonsense way of dealing with people; do it his way or don’t bother to do it at all! For those who knew him well, they knew that deep down inside there was always a kind heart. This was never more apparent than when riding around in his big black truck taking his grandson Jeffrey to see every construction site there was to see in Gloucester, and beyond.
He started visiting New Portland not long after settling in Gloucester. Having met Dunk Sova – he was introduced to “the camp” – and always enjoyed his weekend snow mobiling and stoking the stove. Not long after he purchased a piece of land just down the road – it took many years, but in his retirement he began building his dream house which sits along the Carrabassett River and the Lemon Stream – the Wire Bridge on the backside of the property. Although health problems prevented him from completing the project he still enjoyed many times there – especially the fall weekend Marco and Mary-Kathryn went up together to close-up camp for the winter.
He is survived by his daughter, Pamela and her husband, Charles Edrehi; step-children, Mary-Kathryn and her husband, Jeffrey Gray and Stephen Cluett; three grandchildren, Jena and Christina Edrehi and Jeffrey Cluett; a sister, Catherine “Rena” Briasco, wife of the late John Briasco; three nieces, Catherine Briasco and her husband, Lawrence Stewart, Marie Briasco and her husband, G. Winfield Treese and Andrea and her husband, Edward Brett and several great-nieces and great-nephews. Marco will be greatly missed by family and friends.
A sunset service to celebrate his life will be held on Thursday at the North Shore Arts Association, 11 Pirates Lane, Gloucester at 7 p.m. Committal services will be held on Friday in the St. Stephen’s Cemetery, 221 Concord St., Framingham at 10:30 a.m. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his memory to the North Shore Arts Association, 11 Pirates Lane, Gloucester, MA 01930 or to the charity of one’s choice.
