SOUTHBOROUGH/ WAYLAND: Barbara “Bonnie” (Kurzina) Ely, 69, died peacefully with her family at her side on Monday, September 6, 2010 at the Massachusetts General Hospital following an illness of several months.
She was born on May 21, 1941 in Elmira, New York the daughter of the late Stanley B. and Barbara (Funk) Kurzina.
Bonnie is survived by her devoted and loving children Joseph B. Ely, III and his wife Sharon N. and their children A.J. and Kayla all of Framingham; Christina Ely Loftus and her husband Brian J. and their daughter Brooke all of Wellesley; Peter D. Ely and his wife Tara and their daughter Eve all of Waimea, Hawaii; Sarah E. Gray and her husband R. Bradley and their children Myles and Tabitha all of Bellevue, Washington. Sister of Peter S. Kurzina of Boston and Carolyn K. Pachinger and her husband Otmar of Innsbruck, Austria. Aunt of Linda Tamme of Vienna, Austria; Christine Waivel of Zurich, Switzerland and Lisa Pachinger of Munich, Germany.
Bonnie has been a resident of Southborough for the past seven years and previously resided in Wayland for over 37 years. She spent her earlier years in Ridgewood, NJ and graduated from Beard High School in Orange, NJ. She was a graduate of Garland Junior College of Boston. The most important gift in her life was being with her children and grandchildren who will miss her dearly. She was a surrogate mother to many of her children’s friends and her home was always opened to them whenever they wanted to visit. She loved animals, especially her many dogs and her current beloved mini-dachshund “Penny”. She was a supporter of Buddy Dog of Sudbury and spent many hours as a volunteer at Pearl Vision in Sudbury. She was an avid sports fan and enjoyed the Boston Red Sox, Patriots and Celtics. Bonnie was a very social person and was always available to her family and friends when they needed her for a chat or word of encouragement. She enjoyed the ocean and time spent in Nantucket with her family.
Visitations will be held in Friday, September 10, 2010 from 4:00 to 7:00 pm in the Bryant Memorial Chapel of the John C. Bryant Funeral Home, 56 Pemberton Rd (Off Rte 30), Wayland.
Graveside services will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, September 11, 2010 at North Cemetery, Route 27, Wayland.
