Irene L. Ouellette, RN, 86, of 181 Pine St. died November 27, 2003 at the Hospice House in Concord. She was the widow of Gedeon R. Ouellette who died in 1982.
She was born in Belmont on June 25, 1917, the daughter of Joseph and Mary (Fortier) Sturgeon and had resided in Laconia for most of her life. She was a graduate of the Laconia Hospital School of Nursing in 1939 and worked as a Registered Nurse in Obstetrics at Lakes Region General Hospital until her retirement in 1979.
Mrs. Ouellette was a communicant of Sacred Heart Church, a member of the Ladies of Sacred Heart, the World Apostate of Fatima, and a member and Past President of the Canado American Association. She served as a Cub Scout Den Mother for three years.
She was a past member of the Laconia Hospital Graduate Nurses Association and was a volunteer at many blood banks. She loved to travel, and was active in arts and crafts and the ABC Quilts and the Elder Friendship Club.
She was pre-deceased by a daughter, Linda Martel in 1996 and a grandson Jeffrey Martel in 1990.
Family members include a daughter, Mary E. MacLeod of Manchester; three sons, John R. Ouellette of Laconia, Peter D. Ouellette of Tilton and Thomas Ouellette of Milford; five grandchildren, Glenn Martel, Andrea Martel, Karen MacLeod, Tina Ouellette and Mark Ouellette, three great grandchildren, Jared Martel, Heather Martel and Corey Ouellette; a sister, Marie Snow of Apopka FL; two brothers, Joseph Sturgeon of San Antonio TX and William Sturgeon of Laconia; her godchild, Nancy Morgan of Australia; nieces and nephews.
A calling hour was held in the Simoneau & Lambert Funeral Home, 139 Church St. on Monday from Noon to 1 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated in Sacred Heart Church, 291 Union Ave. on Monday at 1 PM. Rev. Adrien Longchamps, pastor was the celebrant. Burial followed in Sacred Heart Cemetery.
