Obituary

BEVERLY: Marilyn L. Tolvanen Frank, 65, died Friday, September 3, 2010 peacefully surrounded by her family in the Beverly Hospital following a long and courageous battle.
Born in Quincy on December 16, 1944, she was the daughter of the late Manuel M. and Bella (Camacho) Frank. She was a graduate of Dighton Rehoboth Regional High School class of 1962. She had resided in Fall River before moving to Beverly.
Marilyn is best known as the co-owner of Wally’s Ski Shop in Beverly, which she ran for years with her ex-husband, Warren Tolvanen. She would best be remembered as a woman of style, beauty and a remarkable sense of humor. Marilyn gracefully overcame many obstacles that would be a recurrent theme in her life. Through all her many health issues, she fought courageously and remained a strong and vibrant person. Her compassion for others was evidenced by her care for elders and others in need. Her non-judgmental personality kept family and friends revolving through her home for many years. Having lost her own parents at a young age, she adopted a few families that helped her to become the mother and person she was. In her most recent years, she enjoyed spending time with her family, friends and pets. She will be sadly missed by those who knew her best.
Marilyn is survived by her two daughters, Heidi E. and her husband, Quintin Beckett and Gretchen H. Tolvanen; a granddaughter, Savannah J. Beckett; longtime companion, Stephen P. Lotito all of Beverly; an aunt, Agnes and her husband, John Roberts of Philadelphia; her beloved cocker spaniel, “Ally” and several nieces, nephews, cousins and many dear friends.
A celebration of her life will be held on Friday at the Danversport Yacht Club at 6 p.m. with a reception to follow. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in her memory to the Northeast Animal Shelter, 204 Highland Ave., Salem, MA 01970.
