Millbury- Roman I. Iwanienko, 93, of 1 Birchwood Drive, died Tuesday, Nov. 25, in his home.
His wife of 62 years, Barbara (Kuludow) Iwanienko, died in 1996. He leaves a son, Nikolai Iwanienko of Saginaw, Michigan; a daughter, Maria Mosiejczuk of Worcester; five grandchildren; three great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews in Russia. Three brothers and three sisters predeceased him.He was born in Volosovicze, Russia, son of Isaac and Matrona Iwanienko, and was educated there. During World War II, he moved with his family to Germany. Following the war, he emigrated to Argentina, living there from 1949 to 1953. He came to this country settling in Worcester in 1956. Mr. Iwanienko worked for many years in the Building Services Department of Saint Vincent Hospital, retiring in 1975.
He was a member of The Russian Orthodox Church of the Holy Resurrection, and was a “Jack of all trades.” He enjoyed doing all types of household repairs.
The funeral will be held Saturday, Nov. 29, from HENRY-DIRSA FUNERAL HOME, 33 Ward St., Worcester, with a service at 10 a.m. in The Russian Orthodox Church of the Holy Resurrection, 63 Laurel St., Worcester. Burial will be in Hope Cemetery, Worcester. Calling hours are from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday, Nov. 28, in the funeral home. A wake service will be held at 8 p.m. during the calling hours. The family requests that flowers be omitted and that donations be made to The Russian Orthodox Church of the Holy Resurrection, 63 Laurel St., Worcester, MA 01605.
