Robert “Paul” Wood 84 years, of Falmouth, formerly of Avon and Brockton, died Saturday August 28, 2010 with his family by his side. Paul was born on August 14, 1926 in Avon MA to the late George and Glydis (Jones) Wood. Following graduation from Avon High School in 1944, he joined the U.S. Army and was a combat veteran in the 44th division during World War II in Europe.
He was a master craftsman and began his career as a cabinet maker and finish carpenter. After earning his BA degree from Boston State College, he was a teacher for over 20 year at several schools; most notably Whitman- Hanson Regional High School. Paul was an avid hunter and fisherman, and was a master of Trivia.
He is survived by his sons Jeffrey and his wife Joann of Bridgewater, Rob and his wife Denise of Garden City RI, and Christopher of Chicago IL. He was the grandfather of Joseph and Daniel Wood of Bridgewater, Jonathan Wood of Austin TX, Zachary Wood and his wife Alex of San Diego CA, Hannah Wood of Boxford, and Gavin Wood of Chicago IL. Paul was also the great-grandfather to Isaac Wood of San Diego CA.
In addition to his immediate family, Paul is survived by several nieces and nephews, and by his many friends and the “family” of caregivers at Royal Nursing Center in Falmouth. MA.
Visiting hours Friday Sept. 3, 2010 4-8pm in the Conley Funeral Home, 138 Belmont St. (Route 123) Brockton. Funeral from the funeral home Saturday at 8 am, followed by a Mass in St. Michaels Catholic Church Avon at 9am. Burial in Avon Cemetery.
