TEWKSBURY - Grace E. (Gubbins) Goodness, age 85, died peacefully Friday morning, August 27, at Wingate of Andover, where she had been in residence for the last two and one half years. Grace was born in Boston, March 29, 1925, a daughter of the late Robert E. and the late Grace E. (Devoe) Gubbins formerly of Newton, MA. She worked at the Immigration & Naturalization in Boston during World War II, raised her family, and then went to work at USCI, Billerica for 17 years until retiring in 1990. She resided in Tewksbury for 42 years until moving into Wingate at Andover. As a resident of Newton, Grace was a communicant of Our Lady Help of Christians Church, and St. William's Parish since moving to Tewksbury.
She is survived by her sons; Stephen J. and his wife Aida of Selma, Oregon, Paul E. of Methuen, MA, Thomas A. and his wife Susan of Concord, NH, Michael R. and his wife Nancy of Allentown, PA, her daughters; Eileen G. Williams and her husband John of Falls Church, VA, and Linda A. (Sabato) Engstrom of Tyngsboro, MA. She is also survived by her grandchildren; Steven, Matthew, Meredith, True and Joshua Goodness, Katelyn and Jeffrey Williams, and Brian, Jason, and John Sabato, Jr. as well as four great grandchildren. Additionally, she is survived by her sisters; Margaret (Peg) Galligan and her husband Gerry of Canton, MA, Miriam Davis of Falmouth, MA, her brother-in-law Fran Barrett of Falmouth, MA, her former husband Frank Goodness of Hemet, CA, as well as many nieces and nephews. She was also the sister of the late Robert, George, and Charles Gubbins, Virginia Barrett and Theresa Kamp.
Visiting hours are Monday, Aug. 30, from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. in the Tewksbury Funeral Home, corner of Dewey and Main Sts. (Rte 38) TEWKSBURY CENTER, phone (800 in MA or 978) 851 2950. Her funeral will begin Tuesday, Aug. 31, at 10:30 from the funeral home, followed by a Funeral Mass at 11:30 a.m. in St. William's Church, 1351 Main St. (Rte 38) Tewksbury. Following cremation, burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Wingate Resident Council Fund, Wingate at Andover, 80 Andover Street, Andover, MA 01810.
