Joyce E. Kennedy, 83, of Fitzgerald, Georgia, died Wednesday, August 25, 2010 at her residence.
Memorial services will be held 2 P.M., Saturday, August 28 at the Paulk Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. David Rogers and Rev. Johnny Cook officiating. The family will receive friends one hour before the service at the funeral home.
Mrs. Kennedy was born March 27, 1927 in Peach County, Georgia to the late Allie B. and Ruth Tucker Patterson. She moved to Fitzgerald in 1941, graduating from Fitzgerald High School. Mrs. Kennedy was a hairdresser for Doris Pridgen and was a former employee of Maggie’s Flower Shop. She was a member of Arbor Baptist Church, a member of the Ruth Sunday school class, taught the Y.W.A.’s and was a member of the Young At Heart. Mrs. Kennedy was a member of the Retired Railroad Club.
She is survived by her daughter: Brenda Kennedy Hardy of Fitzgerald; 4 grandchildren: Elizabeth Ann (B.J.) Allison, James E. “Jay” Drexler, Eric (Kelly) Kennedy and Benja (Philip) Luke; 5 great grandchildren: Rebecca, Ben, Hedi, Kylee and Gavin; sisters and brothers-in-law: Carolyn & Buford Duke of Albany and Andrea & Russell Thomas, Jr. of Americus; daughter-in-law: Janet K. Kennedy of Leesburg as well as several nieces and nephews. Along with her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Bennie L. Kennedy, two sons, Bennie L. Kennedy, Jr., and Alan Kennedy and two brothers, Malcolm and Donald Patterson.
