Whitman - Frank J. Zajdel 84, a 52 year resident of Whitman died Tuesday August 24 after a period of failing health. He was the beloved husband of 61 years to Theresa (Marzec) Zajdel.
Born in Johnstown, PA he was the son of the late John and Anna (Vinkler) Zajdel.
Frank was a proud veteran of United States Navy retiring after 22 years in 1964. He then began his second career with the US Post Office where he worked in the Whitman office for over 20 years.
He was a member of the Whitman VFW Post 697, and the American Legion of PA.
Frank enjoyed working around his home and garden and was a talented mechanic, often repairing small engines and tinkering with various cars, and he was an avid reader.
In addition to his wife Theresa he is survived by his loving children Ellen Zajdel of West Palm, FL, Michael Zajdel and his wife Cheryl of West Bridgewater, and Scott Zajdel of Bellingham, and his sister Pauline Kowalchik of Johnstown, PA. He is also survived by his grandchildren Melissa, Zachary and Joshua as well as several nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Joseph, Theodore and Stephania Zajdel.
Family and friends are invited to attend his funeral mass to be held Friday August 27 at 10 AM in the Holy Ghost Church, Whitman. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers donations in his name may be made to the Parkinson’s Disease Foundation, 1359 Broadway, Suite 1509 New York, NY 10018.
