Joseph Solomon Inman passed away on August 23, 2010. He was born June 9, 1911 in the Axton area of Pittsylvania County. His parents, Solomon Lee Inman and Amelia Louise Carter Inman, were farmers. As a young man, Solomon worked for several years in a furniture factory, in a flour mill, and on the family farm. He then began a career with Dan River Mills where he continued to work for 42 years, retiring from a position in quality control in the Riverside Division. Following his retirement from Dan River Mills, he served on the Pittsylvania County Board of Assessors for eight years. For the past sixty years, he was a member of Woodlawn Baptist Church, where he served as treasurer, deacon, and trustee.
Solomon was predeceased by his beloved wife Claudine (Dean) Bowling Inman from Ferrum, VA, and eight brothers and sisters. He is survived by one son: Jerry L. Inman and his wife Cindy of Danville; one daughter: Gail Raymond and her husband Frank of Columbia, SC; three grandchildren: Jeremy Inman and his wife Maggie of Columbia, SC, Abigail Raymond Lytle of Atlanta, GA and Lee McCubbins and his wife April Tucker of Danville; and three great-grandchildren: Grace and Olivia Lytle and Logan Tucker.
The family will receive friends Tuesday from 7:00 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. at Swicegood Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. at Swicegood Funeral Home with the Rev. William Blalock officiating, assisted by the Rev. Joe Beck. Interment will follow in Danville Memorial Gardens.
