Mr. William J. Jellinick, age 90 and a lifelong resident of Medford, died at the Wilmington Health Care center on Friday evening, August 20, 2010. He was the beloved husband of the late Dorothy R. (Bird) Jellinick. He was born in North Tonawanda, New York, on July 25, 1920.
William was a WWII Army veteran, entering the military at Buffalo, New York, on November 12, 1942 and receiving his honorable discharge from Ft. Devens on January 10, 1946. While serving in the Army, Mr. Jellinick worked as a Radio Operator and saw battle in Northern France and Rhineland. He was awarded the Good Conduct Medal, European African Middle Eastern Theater Campaign Ribbon, American Theater Campaign Ribbon and the Victory Medal, for his service.
Mr. Jellinick was a communicant of St. Joseph Church in Medford his entire life. William loved wood working and had made a beautiful church out of matchsticks, as well as a steamboat in his younger years.
He was the loving father of Dorrie M. Allen of Medford, Margaret R. Charette of Billerica and Dianne M. Galasso of Medford. Cherished grandfather of William, Kerri, Chris, Alissa and Will. Dear great-grandfather of Devan and Dylan. Also survived by several nieces and nephews. His funeral was from the Beals-Geake-Magliozzi Funeral Home, 29 Governors Avenue, Medford, Wednesday, August 25, 2010, at 9 AM followed by a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated in St. Joseph Church, 118 High St., Medford, at 10 AM. Many relatives and friends respectfully were in attendance. Visiting hours were held on Tuesday, August 24, 2010, from 4 to 8 PM. Interment was in Oak Grove Cemetery, Medford.
