Obituary

Fallon, The Honorable Thomas H., United States Administrative Law Judge, United States Army Veteran, and former Mayor for the City of Malden, passed away on August 16, 2010. He was surrounded by his loving family.

He was the beloved husband of Janice M. (Hurley) Fallon, and the devoted father of Deborah Fallon, Malden City Councillor-at-Large, the late Mary Gistis & her husband Glenn, Thomas Fallon & his wife Kathryn, James Fallon & his wife Norellee, Attorney Kathryn Fallon Manupelli, Malden City Solicitor, & her husband Anthony, Michael Fallon & his wife Belmira, Matthew Fallon & his wife Suzanne, Christine Selmani & her husband Amin, Daniel Fallon & his wife Julianne, Bridget Cook & her husband Aaron, & Erin Fallon. He is the cherished grandfather of 18 grandchildren. He is the brother of Gregory Fallon and his wife Marie, Attorney Christopher Fallon, State Representative, and his wife Catherine, & Jerome “Jay” Fallon and his wife JoAnne.

Thomas was born and raised in Malden. He was the son of the late Malden Police Sergeant Henry G. Fallon and his wife Catherine. He graduated from Malden Catholic High School, and Boston College, where he met his wife of 45 years, Janice. After graduating from Boston College, he became a Woburn High School teacher, and also served overseas with the United States Army. He graduated from Suffolk University Law School and became a member of the Massachusetts Bar in 1971. He established a private law practice in Malden, and served as an Assistant Register of Probate for the Middlesex County Probate Court, and as an Assistant City Solicitor for the City of Malden. He was a past member and Chairman of the Malden School Committee and was the Mayor of the City of Malden from 1982-1986. As the Mayor of Malden, he established a Human Rights Commission, which led to the first Human Rights ordinance being adopted in Malden, as well as the appointment of Malden’s first Affirmative Action Officer. He established a beautification program which served as a model for other communities. He was instrumental in revitalizing the City through rehiring and bringing new development and businesses into the City, and his restructuring of the Malden community led to the restoration of public confidence.

After serving as Mayor for the City of Malden, he was an adjunct professor for Salem State College and continued in the private practice of law. From 1994 to the present, he has served as a United States Administrative Law Judge for the Social Security Administration.

Thomas made numerous contributions to and was actively involved in many civic and professional organizations. Most notably, he was a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans, the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Malden Post No. 639, the Reserve Officers Association, and the Association of First Corps of Cadets. He was a past Council Member of the Middlesex County Bar Association, and a member and past director of the Kiwanis Club of Malden. He was also a former Arbitrator-Panel Member for the American Arbitration Association.

He met and made many friends in all the chapters of his life, and would most want to be remembered as a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather. He instilled a sense of dedication to family and community in his children, who are honored and proud that he is their father.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in the Immaculate Conception Church, 600 Pleasant St. Malden on Saturday August 21st at 10:00AM. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Visiting hours will be held at the church on Friday August 20th from 4:00-8:00 PM. Interment Forest Dale Cemetery, Malden.
