McSorley, Bonnie Shannon
65, of Natick died at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston on Wednesday, August 11, 2010 after a courageous 20 year battle with non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma. Born on May 19, 1945 in Chicago, IL, she was the daughter of the late Ethel Katz and Jessie Max Shannon. Bonnie graduated with her Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Colorado at Boulder in 1966, a Master’s Degree from Northwestern University in 1967 and completed her Ph.D. at Northwestern University in 1972. She taught Spanish language and literature at Northeastern University for 37 years from 1973-2010. Bonnie was a passionate and enthusiastic teacher, admired by her colleagues, peers and students. Bonnie’s love of life and appreciation for everyday she lived was inspirational to all. She lived with dignity, humility, compassion, patience and kindness. She treasured summers with her family on Lake Winnipesaukee, NH, enjoyed traveling all over the world and greatly loved her dogs. Bonnie was a cherished wife and devoted mother and is survived by her husband Robert Livingston McSorley and her two beloved daughters, Elsbeth Ann McSorley and Meredith Shannon McSorley. Bonnie will be dearly missed and forever loved by her wonderful family and friends. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. A memorial service at a future date will take place at Northeastern University.
