Rene A. Lachapelle, Sr. age 74, of Cape Coral, Florida, formerly of Westport, passed away peacefully at home with his loving wife by his side on Friday, July 30. He was the son of the late Lucien and Blanche (Cyr) Lachapelle.
He is survived by his loving wife Rita (Belanger) Lachapelle of 50 years. The couple celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on May 29 surrounded by his family and friends.
Survivors also include his son Rene, Jr., and his wife Pam of Westport, his daughter Jeanne Boucher and her husband David of Fall River, his son Roger and wife Norma of Dartmouth and son Robert of Westport. He was blessed with six grandchildren; Tara and Ryan Lachapelle, Andrew Boucher, and Brooke, Marisa and Benjamin Lachapelle.
He was a former member of Our Lady of Grace Church of Westport and currently of St. Andrew’s Church of Cape Coral, Florida. He was a life-time member of the Knights of Columbus 4th degree, President of Our Lady of Grace St. Vincent de Paul Society for ten years and received the Top Hat Award. He was also the recipient of the Marian Medal and was a past President of the Couple’s Club. He was very much involved in community and political affairs. He was also on the board of directors for the Fall River Bowling Green and served as Deputy Sheriff under Sheriff Tom Hodgson. He retired from H.P. Hood after 43 years and moved to Cape Coral, Florida in 2005.
He is also survived by a brother Roland Lachapelle of Pawtucket, Rhode Island and a sister Pauline Martin of Jacksonville, North Carolina.
He was the brother of the late Rita Coylar, Raymond Lachapelle, Annette Casmiro and Norman Lachapelle.
A mass of Christian burial will be held on Friday at 9 am at St. John the Baptist Church, Main Road, Westport. Relatives and friends are invited to attend.
Burial to follow in Beech Grove Cemetery, Westport.
