Obituary

Robert F. O’Donnell, 71, died Monday, August 10, at the Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, after a period of failing health He was the husband of the late Rose D. (Boyce) O’Donnell. Born in Rockland, he was a graduate of Archbishop Williams High School in Braintree and Wentworth Technical Institute in Boston, with a degree in Electrical Engineering. He also attended Northeastern University. He was a resident of Stoughton for over 25 years. He was employed by IBM as a field service Engineer and later was a Technical Writer and Manager of User Documentation for Honeywell-Bull Computer Systems. After becoming a WordPerfect Certified Instructor, he ran a home-based computer training and consulting business for several years. Mr. O’Donnell’s next career was as a singer and wandering minstrel at King Richard’s Faire and other medieval faires as well as many local family taverns. He was especially fond of collecting medieval costumes, hand made walking sticks and outlandish hats.
He is survived by his four daughters: Kathy O’Donnell and Patty Strang both of Wareham, Lori Hines of TX and Marlene Wilkinson of Rockland. He is also survived by six grandchildren, two great grandchildren.
Funeral Services will be held in the New Hope Christian Chapel, 6 Meadowhill Ct., (Off Rte 106) South Easton, 02375, on Friday at 11 AM. Visiting Hours will be held in the Farley Funeral Home, 358 Park St. (Rte 27), Stoughton, on Thursday from 5-8 PM. Burial will follow at Holy Family Cemetery, Rockland. Donations in Bob’s memory may be made to the New Hope Christian Chapel at the above address or to a not-for-profit charity of one’s choice.
