Obituary

Joe Thomas (J.T.) Owens, 80, Clarksville, died Friday, Aug. 6, 2010, at his residence. A celebration of life service will be held at 1:00 PM Monday at Neal-Tarpley-Parchman Chapel with Rev. B.J. Brack officiating. Burial will be in Resthaven Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from 1:00 PM until 5:00 PM Sunday and from Noon until the hour of service Monday at the funeral home. Neal-Tarpley-Parchman Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. He was born January 26, 1930 in Martin, KY, the son of Joe Cephis Owens and Dona Owsley Owens. He attended Bethlehem United Methodist Church. Retired from Acme Boot in 1991 as purchasing agent, coached Clarksville National Little Leagues Teams, umpired for Clarksville Little Leagues, member of Mended Hearts( Mentor program for heart patients) and a Lifetime Member of Montgomery County Conservation Club.
Joe Owens touched the lives of many young men in Clarksville through his work with the Clarksville National Little League. He spent 40 years coaching and umpiring. Through his love of baseball he taught many of our community's youth the importance of citzenship and team work. He is survived by his wife Betty L.Owens of Clarksville, one son Ricky (Sandy) Owens of Lake Mary, FL, three daughters Dr. Clara (Tony) Patterson, Debbie (Gary) Puskas, Patty (Vernon) Jarrett all of Clarksville, two brothers Robert Owens of Dana, KY, Charles (Ellen) Owens of Albion, IN, one sister Clara ( Collier) Little of Beverly Hills, FL, eight grandchildren Chase (Wendy) Smith of Nolensville, TN, Jeremy Puskas of Clarksville, Brittney (Brian) Spence, Jenna Jarrett, Hunter Jarrett, Kaylon Jarrett, Marlee Jarrett all of Clarksville, Eric Owens of Lake Mary, FL., Step grandson Anthony (Misty) Patterson, Jr. of Clarksville. Great grandchildren Sasha Puskas, Owen Smith, EllaChase Spence do to arrive later this month. Step great grandchildren Leana Moore, Gary Morrison, Tayea Spence, Cody Oliver and Anthony Patterson,III. Pallbearers will be sons-in-law and grandsons. In lieu of flowers memorials can be made to Bethlehem United Methodist Church Activities Bldg Fund c/o B.U.M.C.
