Obituary

Agnes H. (Hromadka) Armstrong, 70, of Dartmouth died Thursday, August 5, 2010, peacefully at home surrounded by her family. She was the wife of Raymond F. Armstrong.
Born and raised in St. Louis, Missouri, she was the daughter of the late Vincent and Agnes (Moder) Hromadka. Agnes lived in Northbrook, Illinois before moving to Dartmouth ten years ago.
Mrs. Armstrong was a graduate of Fontbonne College in St. Louis. She was formerly employed as the manager of the Neiman Marcus Travel Agency in Chicago until her retirement.
She remained an avid traveler and through the years visited every continent with the exception of Antarctica. Never shying from adventure, Agnes rode camels in the desert, biked in Europe, slept in the jungles of South America, hiked Machu Picchu, climbed the Great Wall of China, and safaried in Africa, among many other travels.
Agnes was always an active member of any community in which she lived. She was a communicant of St. Mary's Church in Dartmouth, a member of the Garden Club of Buzzards Bay, the Women's Luncheon Club, the New Bedford Mother’s Club, the Northbrook Women’s Club, and area walking groups. She was a founder of the Friends of the Rotch-Jones-Duff House and had been a Dartmouth Town Meeting member.
She also enjoyed cooking, painting, gardening, sewing, and spending time with her family, extended family, and friends.
Survivors include her devoted husband; her loving son, Raymond F. Armstrong II and his wife Maureen Sylvia Armstrong of Dartmouth; her beloved grandsons, Andrew and Charlie; her beloved brother, Vincent Hromadka and his wife Mary of St. Louis; and a niece and three nephews.
She was the sister of the late Cecilia Hromadka.
Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday at 11 AM in St. Mary's Church, South Dartmouth. Burial will be in Resurrection Cemetery, St. Louis. There are no visiting hours.
