George L. Thompson, 39, of Fitzgerald, died Wednesday, August 04, 2010 at his residence.
Funeral services will be held 11 A.M., Saturday, August 7, 2010 at the Paulk Funeral Home Chapel in Fitzgerald with Rev. Earlie Holt officiating. Interment will follow in the Evergreen Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 PM Friday evening at the funeral home in Fitzgerald.
Mr. Thompson was born October 18, 1970, in Fitzgerald, Georgia to Rudine Nipper Thompson and the late Leonard D. Thompson. He had lived most of his life in Fitzgerald, and was the General Manager of Transhaul, Inc. in Douglas. Mr. Thompson graduated from Fitzgerald High School 1989, and received a degree in telecommunications from Ben Hill-Irwin Technical College. He had been a member of Georgia Air National Guard. Mr. Thompson was an avid auto racing fan, along with his wife he was a former owner of Cordele Motor Speedway in Cordele. He was actively involved with Christian Tabernacle Church, he enjoyed fishing and spending time with his family and friends.
Survivors include wife: Gina Young Thompson, son, Garrett Burch, daughter, Deanna Thompson, mother, Rudine N. Thompson all of Fitzgerald; sister and brother-in-law, Elizabeth & Terry Roberts of Dahlonega; brothers and sisters-in-law, Edward & Marilyn Thompson and Dwight & Linda Thompson all of Fitzgerald and several nieces and nephews.
