Obituary

New Bedford – Laura (Souza) Picard Turgeon, 92, of New Bedford died after a long illness on August 1, 2010. She was the widow of Joseph Picard and Edgar Turgeon.

Mrs. Turgeon was born in Westport, daughter of the late Antone and Rose Ann (Hebert) Souza, and resided in New Bedford most of her life. She was a communicant of St. Lawrence Church. She loved books and had a thirst for knowledge. She was an accomplished seamstress and was gifted and talented in making many other creations. A loving mother, her life revolved around her family.

Survivors include her children: Jeannette Griffin, John Picard, Joan Mercier, Janice Picard and James Picard; a step-daughter: Jean Turgeon; a sister: Blanche Hague; a brother: Antone Souza; 7 grandchildren: Robert Smith, John Griffin, Derek Picard, Mike Desrosiers, Eric Desrosiers, Jennifer Green and James Picard, Jr.; 10 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces & nephews.

She was mother of the late Joseph A. Picard and Joseph J. Picard; sister of the late: Arthur, Alfred, Joseph and Henry Souza; grandmother of the late Jo Ann Desrosiers, Holly A. Brown and Kenneth Leblanc; and great-grandmother of the late Cheyenne Makenzie Brown.

At the request of the family, services will be private.
