Dorothy Mayes Johnson
Dorothy Mayes “Dot” Johnson, 88, a former longtime Augusta resident, passed away early Saturday morning, July 31, 2010, at Rex Nursing & Rehab Center in Raleigh, NC, where she had resided for 2 ½ years. She had been a resident of North Carolina for the last 5 years, previously residing at Independence Village in Raleigh. She was preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, James Edward “Jim” Johnson, who passed away in Augusta in 1998.
Survivors include her daughter Linda Luques and husband Jeff of Cary, NC; her son Bruce Johnson and Ramona Stoner of Cumming, GA; two grandchildren, Beth Luques of Cary, NC and Melanie Luques of Raleigh, NC; two sisters, Jean Martin and husband Tony of Richmond, VA, and Paige Beale and husband James of Hampton, VA; one brother, Lawrence Hobbs and wife Edith of Stony Creek, VA. She was preceded in death by her sister Audrey Reynolds and husband Carl of Stony Creek, VA. She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Visitation will be held from 7:00 to 8:00 PM on Wednesday evening at Thomas Poteet & Son Funeral Directors, 214 Davis Rd., Augusta, GA. The funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, August 5th, at Aldersgate United Methodist Church, 3185 Wheeler Road, in Augusta, GA. The family will receive friends at the church beginning at 10:00 AM prior to the funeral service. Burial will be next to her husband, Jim, in Westover Memorial Park in Augusta.
Mrs. Johnson was a member of Aldersgate prior to moving to NC in 2005. She was active in her garden club and church circle. Prior to being a homemaker she was a teacher at Forest Hills Elementary. She enjoyed cooking, flower arranging, and spending time with family and friends.
