Obituary

TEWKSBURY: Robert R. "Don" Friedman, age 77, a resident of Tewksbury for 51 years, passed away on Thursday, July 29, 2010 at the Life Care Center of the Merrimack Valley in Billerica.
He was the beloved husband of Carole L. (Jacobsen) Friedman, with whom he would have celebrated their 53rd wedding anniversary on August 24, 2010.
Born in Newton on September 23, 1932, he was the son of the late Elmer R. Friedman and the late Edith (Anderson) Kilcommons.
Mr. Friedman was raised in the Roslindale area of Boston and graduated from Roslindale High School in 1950.
In 1952, he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and served during the Korean Conflict with the 30th Command Squadron (SAC). He was awarded several decorations for his military service including the United Nations Service Medal, the Korean Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal.
Prior to his retirement in 1997, he was employed as a purchasing agent by the CIS-US Company of Bedford. Mr. Friedman previously worked for the Textron Corporation in Wilmington.
He was a faithful member of the Lutheran Church of the Savior in Bedford, where he served as a past member of the church council.
Mr. Friedman enjoyed many activities including playing golf, spending family vacations at Lake Balch in Maine, swimming at the Lowell Y.M.C.A., volunteering at the Central Food Ministry of Lowell and managing and coaching the "Indians" in the Tewksbury Little League Baseball Program.
In addition, he was an active supporter of Tewksbury Youth and High School Athletic Programs.
In addition to his wife , he is survived by his children, Janet M. Davis and her husband John of Tewksbury, James R. Friedman and his wife Donna of Medford and Scott W. Friedman and his wife Rachel of Nashua, NH; five grandchildren, Jennifer, Matthew, Mark, Ashley and Jeffrey; one sister, Barbara Clothier and her husband Warren of Carmichael, CA; a sister-in-law Marie Schulze of Cranston, RI; several nieces and nephews, and many friends.
Mr. Friedman was the brother-in-law of the late Raymond Schulze, formerly of Cranston, RI and Claire Hamilton, formerly of Stoughton.
Calling hours Tuesday, Aug. 3rd, from 4-8 p.m., at the Farmer & Dee Funeral Home, 16 Lee St., Tewksbury. Funeral service Wednesday, Aug. 4th, at 11 a.m., at the Lutheran Church of the Savior, 426 Davis Rd., Bedford. Interment service with military honors to follow at 1:30 p.m., at Tewksbury Cemetery, 172 East St., Tewksbury. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the Lutheran Church of the Savior, 426 Davis Rd., Bedford, MA 01703.
