Thelma A. Wentzell, 72

Dateline: Mansfield, MA

Thelma A. (Walker) Wentzell, 72, a lifelong resident of Mansfield passed away unexpectedly on Thursday July 29, 2010 at the Sturdy Memorial Hospital in Attleboro. She was beloved wife of Roy A. Wentzell, to whom she was wed for 51 years.
Born in Attleboro, MA on September 5, 1937 she was a loving daughter of the late George E., Sr. and Winifred (Nickerson) Walker.
Thelma grew up in Mansfield, was educated in Mansfield public schools, was a 1955 graduate of Mansfield High School and later graduated from the Katherine Gibbs Secretarial School in Boston.
Prior to retiring, Mrs. Wentzell had been employed for 15 years as a Mortgage Secretary at the Mansfield Co-Operative Bank in Mansfield. She had formerly worked in the Light Department at the Mansfield Town Hall and had also worked for the New England Mutual Life Insurance Company in Boston. At the time of her death, she, along with her husband Roy were the co-owners of the Ayer Sports Card Center in Ayer.
A lifelong communicant of St. Mary’s Church in Mansfield, Thelma enjoyed camping, traveling with her husband, reading, line dancing, and morning walks at the Emerald Mall in North Attleboro.
An avid New England Patriots and Boston Red Sox fan, Mrs. Wentzell cherished the times spent in the presence of her cherished family, especially with her grandchildren.
In addition to her beloved husband of 51 years, she is survived by her devoted children Stephen C. Wentzell and his longtime girlfriend Gloria of Ayer, Linda M. Prew and her husband Herb of Mansfield, John A. Wentzell and his wife Cathy of Cumberland, RI, Daniel R. Wentzell and his longtime girlfriend Diane of North Easton and Eric J. Wentzell and his partner Jason of Woonsocket, RI. She was the dear sister of George E. Walker of Mansfield and is also survived by her adoring grandchildren Mark and Michael Prew, Matthew and Nicholas Wentzell and Ryan and Kendra Wentzell, as well as several nieces and nephews.
Her funeral, to which relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend, will be held on Tuesday August 3rd at 9:30 A.M. from the Sherman & Jackson Funeral Home 55 North Main St. Mansfield followed by a Mass of Christian burial celebrated at 10:30 A.M. in St. Mary’s Church 330 Pratt St. (Route 106) Mansfield. Burial will follow in the Spring Brook Cemetery, Mansfield.
Visiting hours will be held on Monday August 2nd from 4-8 P.M. at the Sherman & Jackson Funeral Home.
