Richard S. Yorke, 60, of Norton passed away peacefully in the presence of his loving family on Wednesday July 28, 2010 at home. He was the dearly beloved husband of Justine M. (Ellis) Yorke to whom he celebrated his 41st wedding anniversary with on July 25th.
Born in Boston, MA on November 20, 1949, he was a son of the late Richard A. and Frances L. (McGrath) Yorke.
Dick grew up in Braintree, was educated in Braintree public schools and was a 1967 graduate of Braintree High School. He furthered his studies and was a graduate of Massasoit Community College.
A retired Firefighter and EMT, Mr. Yorke faithfully served on the Randolph Fire Department for 18 years prior to retiring. Following his retirement, he had worked for 12 years at Handy House in Foxboro.
Dick had made his home in Norton for the past 34 years. He was a communicant of St. Mary’s Church in Norton and when younger had honorably served in the National Guard.
His favorite times spent were those in the presence of his adoring family and had anticipated the birth of his tenth grandchild in January. Mr. Yorke was an avid supporter of Wheaton College sports; the basketball teams being his favorite. He also enjoyed reading, working around his yard and loved listening to music of the 20’s, 30’s and 40’s.
In addition to his dearly beloved wife he is survived his devoted children Eileen M. Danahey and her husband Sean of North Attleboro, Rachel A. Kearney and her husband Robert of Arlington, Stephen M. Yorke and his wife Mandy of Douglas and Marybeth F. Yorke of Montreal. He was the dear brother of Kathryn Yorke of Holbrook, Kristina Yorke of Quincy and the late Marian Yorke. He was the cherished “Papa” of Shannen, Noelle, Conor and Kathleen Danahey, Seamus and Colleen Kearney, Delaney, Benjamin and Morgan Yorke, and is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
His funeral, to which relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend, will be held on Monday August 2nd at 9:00 A.M. from the Norton Memorial Funeral Home 19 Clapp St. (Off Route 140, Taunton Ave.) Norton followed by a Mass of Christian burial celebrated at 10:00 A.M. in St. Mary’s Church 1 Power St. Norton. Burial will follow in the Timothy Plain Cemetery, Norton.
Visiting hours will be held on Sunday August 1st from 4-7 P.M. at the Norton Memorial Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, Mr. Yorke’s family has requested that donations in his memory be made to Caritas Hospice & Palliative Care 275 Martine St. Fall River, MA 02723.
