R. Barbara (Steele) Andrews, 84, of Lawrence died on Thursday July 22, 2010 at Lawrence General Hospital. Barbara was born in Lawrence and raised in Lawrence and Methuen. She was a 1943 graduate of Edward F. Searles High School, Methuen. She was a member of South Congregational Church, Lawrence where she was a member of The Friendly Circle and the church choir and organized all of the church suppers. Barbara volunteered her time knitting clothing goods and donating them to various local missions such as Neighbors in Need and Lazarus House.
Her family members include her husband, Fred W. Andrews of Lawrence and her Children, Priscilla R. Andrews of Lawrence, Stephen A. and his wife, Judith Andrews of Newark, NY and Thomas and his wife, Karen Andrews of Salem, NH. She also leaves her sister, Elizabeth M. and her husband, Charles Bamford of Beverly, MA and 13 grandchildren and several great grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins and she was pre-deceased by her son, Stuart W. Andrews.
Calling hours will be on Monday, July 26, 2010 from 5 to 8 pm at The Charles F. Dewhirst Funeral Home, 80 Broadway, Methuen. Funeral services will be on Tuesday July 27 at 10:30 am at the funeral home. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery, Methuen. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to South Congregational Church, 180 South Broadway, Lawrence, Ma. 01843 or to The American Heart Association, 20 Speen St., Framingham, Ma 01701.
