WINGATE - James O. Wingate, 66, of Yulee passed away Wednesday, July 21, 2010 at Shands Hospital in Jacksonville. He was born May 15, 1944 in Jesup, GA and moved to Yulee in 1970 from the Oceanway area of Jacksonville, FL. He was a member of Community Baptist Church in Yulee and was employed by Jacksonville Shipyards as a welding supervisor. Mr. Wingate was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He loved children. He enjoyed traveling and visited at least half of the United States. He also enjoyed going fishing with his wife, Diane. He loved football; especially the Florida Gators. Survivors include his wife of 28 years, Diane Jordan Wingate of Yulee, FL; two daughters, Lisa Chaney (Ronnie) of Hilliard, FL and Tina Marie Wingate (Earl) of Folkston, GA; two sons, James Eric Wingate (Tammy) of Yulee, FL and Jonathan Matthew Wingate, I, also of Yulee; a sister Velma V. Hall of Jesup,GA; one brother, Roy C. Wingate of Yulee, FL; 10 grandchildren, six great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. Graveside funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday at Hughes Cemetery with Rev. Hartford Peeples officiating. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Monday at Green Pine Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations be made to either the Samaritan Clinic of Fernandina Beach or the Catty Shack, 1800 Starratt, Jacksonville, FL 32226.
