Obituary

William “Bill” E. Alexander, Jr., 67, of Washington, passed away at his home Tuesday morning, July 20, 2010.

Bill was born on June 28, 1943 in Indianapolis to William and Joann Horine Alexander, Sr. In 1963 he married Diedra Ingle in Tuscola, Illinois and was married for 32 years, she survives.

Among those surviving are two daughters, Tami (Rick) Mason of Washington and Robin (Tim) Simpson of Benson; one son, William Alexander, III of Washington; three sisters, Jeanie (Harold) Rankin of Oakland, Illinois, Becky (Ron) Winn of Heyworth, Illinois and Cindy of Dallas, Texas; one brother, Gary (Connie) Alexander of Villa Grove, Illinois and nine loving grandchildren, David and Nicholas Bowen, Max and Riley Simpson, A.J., Lily and Lexi Mason and Isabella and Adam Alexander.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents, two grandchildren, Sarah Bowen and Camden Simpson and one brother, Ed.

For many years Bill owned and operated Alexander’s Marathon Station at the corner of Willow Knolls and University in Peoria. Later he was owner of Alexander-Scheiber Floor Coverings in Morton for 13 years prior to his retirement two years ago. Bill was a very hard worker and passed along the work ethic to his family.

Bill had earned a bachelor’s degree from Eastern Illinois University and was a member of the Big 25 Sportsmen’s Club in Victoria, Illinois.

In his younger years, Bill loved to play softball and was an avid Cardinal’s fan. He had a great love of the outdoors, fishing and taking care of his property and family, but nothing compared to the time he spent with his grandchildren.

The family will receive friends on Friday from 10 to 11:30 a.m. at the Mason-White Funeral Home in Washington. Cremation rites have been accorded.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
