Obituary

Margaret “Peg” Thurler of Canton, in her ninety-second year, passed away on Monday, July 19, at the Hellenic Nursing Home in Canton. Born in Moorestown, New Jersey, she attended Moorestown Friends School where she excelled at four varsity sports, including track and field where she set records in the high jump. She also edited the school literary magazine. In 1940 she graduated from Vassar College as an English major and later taught in the Summit, New Jersey, public school system for many years. Following her retirement from teaching, she moved to Canton in 1985 and began working for the Canton Citizen as a reporter specializing in girls' sports. Peg was a member of the Canton Historical Society and enjoyed supporting environmental and animal welfare causes. Beloved wife of the late Charles. She is survived by her son Dan Thurler and his wife Ginny of Canton, and two grandchildren, Andrea of Beverly and Sean of Canton. Visiting hours at the Dockray & Thomas Funeral Home, 455 Washington St., Canton, on Thursday, July 22, from 7-9 PM. Funeral services and interment will be held in New Jersey. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to the Town of Canton Animal Shelter, 801 Washington Street, Canton, MA 02021.
