Obituary

GREERS FERRY, AR: Stephen L. Fountaine, 73, died Tuesday, July 6, 2010 in the Arkansas Hospice Inpatient Center with his wife by his side, following a short battle with cancer. He was the husband of Teresa (Harrell) Fountaine.

Born in Haverhill on November 21, 1936, he was the son of the late Leonard and Vivian (Comeau) Fountaine. He attended Haverhill Schools and was a graduate of Haverhill High School. A U.S. Air Force Veteran, he was honorably discharged in 1963.

He was the Deputy Sheriff of Essex County for twenty-two years until his retirement in 1986. Stephen was a self-motivated business man who owned many businesses over the years. He was the owner of Steve's Billiards in Haverhill as well as Saco River Motor Lodge and the Parkview Inn, both of Conway, NH. He also owned Chelsea's Billiards in North Conway, NH, and currently was the owner of Sugar Maple Inn and the Collec-Tiques Mall both in Greers Ferry AR.

He was a member of the North Conway Chamber of Commerce, Greers Ferry Chamber of Commerce, Fairfield Bay Chamber of Commerce and the North Conway Country Club. In his leisure time, Stephen enjoyed golfing, playing pool, spending time on his boat and RVing. He was a licensed Golfsmith. Above all he enjoyed spending time with family.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his four daughters and two sons-in-law, Dawn and Steven Cataldo and Maureen and Todd Martinage all of Litchfield, NH, Michelle Fountaine of Sacramento, CA, and Stephanie Fountaine of Watertown, five grandchildren, Olivia and Julia Martinage, Chelsea (Cataldo) Terrin and Gianna and Natalie Cataldo, a great-granddaughter, Tahlia Terrin, a brother, Robert Fountaine of Haverhill, an uncle, Norman and his wife, Janice Fountaine of Plaistow, NH and many nieces and nephews. He was also predeceased by his son, Stephen Fountaine, and his brothers, David and James Fountaine.

His funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday in the All Saints Church, 120 Bellevue Ave., Haverhill at 11 a.m. Visiting hours will be held on Monday in the Linnehan-Grondin Funeral Home, 129 Kenoza Avenue, Haverhill from 4-7 p.m. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his memory to a local hospice of your choice.
