HAVERHILL: Mrs. Mary L. (Phelan) Nedeau, 87, long time resident of Haverhill, formerly of Groveland, passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 19, 2009 in the Wingate at Haverhill Nursing Center. She was the wife of the late Ronald Nedeau who predeceased her 35 years ago.
Born in Lawrence on July 5, 1922, she was the daughter of the late Edward F. and Katherine (King) Phelan. She attended Lawrence public schools prior to moving to Haverhill over 60 years ago. She and her husband owned a shoe retailing store in Groveland prior to her going to work for Hudson's Department Store where she worked until her retirement. She was a member of The Haverhill Country Club for many years. She will be sadly missed by her friends at Mission Towers where she was a long time resident.
She is survived by her sister-in-law Shirley M. (Fecteau) Phelan, a beloved niece, Kathleen A. Phelan both of Bradford, nephews, John E. Phelan Jr. and his two children, Paige and Devin Phelan, all of Hopkinton and Edward P. Phelan and his wife, Diane and their three children, Lindsey, Ryan and Kiley Phelan all of West Hartford, CT. She was also predeceased by her brother, John E. Phelan Sr.
Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday morning in the Linnehan-Grondin Funeral Home, 129 Kenoza Avenue, Haverhill from 9 - 10 a.m. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend. Her funeral service and interment will be held privately. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in her memory to the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38108-1942.
