Obituary

Doris B. "Dottie" (Polley) Velasques, 85, died Friday, May 22, 2009 in the Anna Jaques Hospital after succumbing to the battle of two recent surgeries. She was the wife of the late Charles V. Velasques.

Born in Tyngsboro on January 29, 1924 she was the daughter of the late Arthur and Evelyn (Thompson) Polley. She spent her early years in Manchester, NH before moving to the Boston area and later settling in Lawrence. During World War II, she enjoyed entertaining the troops, singing and dancing.

Dottie was employed as a licensed practical nurse at the Town Manor Nursing Home in Lawrence for twenty-seven years before her retirement. She enjoyed watching television and feeding the squirrels in her yard, which she affectionately named each one.

She is survived by two daughters and a son-in-law, Sandra J. and her husband, Donald Flint of Rye, NH and Mary Louise Myers of Lula, GA, a sister, Nancy Marie Velasques, a brother, Robert Fisk of Methuen, many nieces, nephews and dear neighborhood friends. She was also predeceased by three sisters, Shirley Souliotis, Winifred Polley and Mildred Ames and two brothers, Amos Fuller and Wallace Miller.

Her funeral services will be held on Thursday in the Highland Cemetery, Highland Street, Newton, NH at 11 a.m. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend. As a two time cancer survivor, the family requests contributions to be made in her memory to the American Cancer Society, 30 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701.
